Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis concept [w/Gallery]

Hyundai has unveiled its HCD-14 Genesis concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

The HCD-14 Genesis concept provides a glimpse of Hyundai's future design direction and features the carmaker's latest technologies, such as eye-tracking and gesture-based controls.

At the front of the concept brushed metal grille surfaces feature with a deep vertical grille opening while LED daytime running lights are integrated into the bottom of the fender. From the side, an extended dash-to-axle length, short overhangs, large-diameter wheels, sharply-tapered greenhouse, and short rear deck give the concept classic-rear wheel drive sport saloon proportions.

A sharp character lines runs the length of the car under the sill while a brushed steel line - originating from the front DRLs - stretches back before flicking upwards into the rear fender. Christopher Chapman, chief designer, Hyundai Design North America, says the HCD-14 Genesis uses "fluidic precision with dramatic surfacing" to give the exterior a liquid-metal look.

Inside, laminated and milled-wood detailing is designed to provide a topographical map-like aesthetic throughout the cabin-length, double-cresting-wave center console. This design-wave theme can also be seen on the interior door handles and rear headrest hoods. Gauges and driver data are provided via an eclectic fusion of both analog and digital sources, with aviation-derived design cues.
